10 Christmas Party Games for Families That Everyone Can Play
Oct 05, 2026Finding Christmas party games that the whole family can enjoy isn’t always easy. Kids want something fun. Teenagers don’t want something cool. Adults have want something new. And Grandma and Grandpa probably aren’t interested in racing across the living room carrying ornaments on a spoon.
And do you really have time to scroll through a list of 50 Christmas party games just to find a few your family might actually enjoy? We didn’t think so.
So we’ve narrowed it down to 10 Christmas party games for families that just about everyone can play. Some will test your knowledge. Others will bring back memories. And all of them will get the entire family talking, connecting, and hopefully laughing along the way.
Better yet, most require absolutely no preparation, other than the simple print-and-play games you can have ready in minutes. So gather the kids, teenagers, parents and grandparents. Here are 10 family Christmas games that are easy to play, different from the same old games, and designed to get everyone involved.
1. The Year of the Toy

Remember when Barbie dolls were the must-have Christmas gift? Or when Beanie Babies seemed to be everywhere? The Year of the Toy turns those Christmas memories into a fun competition for the whole family.
Players are given 20 popular toys from years gone by, and three possible decades for each one. First, try to figure out which decade the toy first hit the market. And if you really know your toys, you can earn bonus points by guessing the exact year it debuted.
This is a great game for families because different generations may have the advantage on different questions. Kids might know the newer toys, while Mom, Dad, Grandma or Grandpa may suddenly become the family expert when an old favorite appears!
Best for: Families and older adults

Ages: 10–99

Time: 15–20 minutes

Questions: 20

Prep: Print & Play
Why we love it: The best part isn’t necessarily who wins. It’s the memories, stories and laughter that start when someone says, “Oh, I remember getting one of those for Christmas!”

2. Christmas Family Memories
Forget about testing who knows the names of Santa’s reindeer. This Christmas game is all about discovering how well you know each other.
Take turns answering questions about Christmases past. You can have everyone answer the same question, draw questions from a bowl, or simply work your way through the list.
Don’t be surprised if one question turns into a story nobody in the family has ever heard before!
Try questions like:
- What was your favorite Christmas gift you ever received?
- What Christmas present did you want as a kid but never get?
- What’s your earliest Christmas memory?
- What was your favorite Christmas tradition growing up?
- What’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened at one of our family Christmases?
- What Christmas food could you happily never eat again?
- Who in our family is the hardest person to buy a Christmas present for?
- What’s your favorite Christmas movie of all time?
- What’s one Christmas tradition from your childhood you wish we still did?
- If you could relive one Christmas from your past, which one would you choose?
Best for: Families of all ages

Time: As long as you want!

Prep: None
Why we love it: There are no winners or losers. The game gets everyone talking, laughing and telling stories — and younger family members may hear Christmas memories they’ve never heard before.
3. The Christmas Movie Quote Game

“Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings.” You probably know the movie — but do you remember who said it?
The Christmas Movie Quote Game puts your family’s holiday movie knowledge to the test with famous lines from Christmas movies past and present.
For each quote, players have two challenges: name the Christmas movie AND identify the character who said it.
The game includes three separate 10-question quizzes, so the host can play one quick round, spread the quizzes throughout the evening, or use all 30 questions for the ultimate Christmas movie showdown.
And don’t be surprised if someone can quote an entire scene from Elf but suddenly can’t remember who actually said the line!
Best for: Families & Adults

Ages: 12–Adult

Time: 12–15 minutes

Questions: 30

Prep: Print & Play
Why we love it: With three separate quizzes, the host can easily adjust the game to fit the group and the amount of time available.

4. Christmas Have You Ever?
How many of the following Christmas experiences have you had? Read each statement aloud and have everyone keep track of how many times they answer YES. The person with the most yeses at the end wins!
- Have you ever waited until Christmas Eve to begin your Christmas shopping?
- Have you ever actually eaten a roasted chestnut?
- Have you ever peeked at a Christmas present before Christmas morning?
- Have you ever re-gifted a Christmas present you didn't want?
- Have you ever worn an ugly Christmas sweater in public?
- Have you ever sent a Christmas card to someone simply because they sent one to you?
- Have you ever given someone a Christmas present that you really wanted to keep for yourself?
- Have you ever left your Christmas decorations up until February—or later?
- Have you ever gone Christmas caroling door-to-door?
- Have you ever kissed someone under the mistletoe?
Best for: Families & Adults

Ages: 10–Adult

Time: 5–10 minutes

Prep: None
Why we love it: Everyone can play, there are no complicated rules, and almost every “yes” has a story behind it. Don’t be surprised if the game comes to a halt because somebody suddenly has some explaining to do!
5. Christmas With the Blanks

Sometimes the missing word seems obvious...until you’re the one staring at the blank!
Christmas With the Blanks gives players 15 different word clues with one thing in common: something is missing. Your job is to figure out the words correctly fill each blank.
Play individually for bragging rights, or divide the family into teams and let kids, parents and grandparents put their heads together. Sometimes one person will think of an answer immediately while everyone else is completely stumped — which makes this a particularly fun game for mixed-age groups.
Best for: Families, classrooms & mixed-age groups

Ages: 8–Adult

Time: 12–20 minutes

Questions: 15

Prep: Print & Play
Why we love it: It’s not just about coming up with a right answer. Working together creates plenty of opportunities for teamwork, encouragement and a little friendly competition.

6. Christmas Stare Down
No supplies. No questions. No Christmas knowledge required. All you need is a group of people who can look each other in the eye!
Have everyone stand in a circle and look down at the ground. On the count of three, everyone looks up and immediately chooses one person to stare at.
Here’s the catch: you’re hoping that person isn’t staring back at you!
If two people look up and discover they’re staring directly at each other, they’re both out and must sit down. Everyone else stays standing, looks back down, and begins another round.
Keep playing until only one person remains — the Christmas Stare Down Champion!
Best for: Families & larger groups

Ages: 6–Adult

Time: 5–10 minutes

Prep: Absolutely none
Why we love it: It takes about 30 seconds to explain, anybody can play, and the moment two people realize they’ve chosen each other usually produces some pretty good laughs.
7. Who’s That Bearded Man?

Santa isn’t the only famous guy with facial hair!
Who’s That Bearded Man? challenges players to identify 20 famous people from their facial hair. Some faces may be instantly recognizable, while others might leave the entire family scratching their heads.
This is another game where having several generations playing together can actually be an advantage. Kids may recognize someone the grandparents don’t — and Grandma or Grandpa may immediately identify a famous historical figure that leaves everyone else completely stumped.
Play individually or divide into teams and see who can identify the most famous faces.
Best for: Families, students & adults

Ages: 8–Adult

Time: 10–15 minutes

Questions: 20

Prep: Print & Play
Why we love it: Besides the competition, the famous faces often lead to conversations about who these people were and why they’re remembered. You might even learn a little history while you’re having fun.

8. Christmas A–Z
Think you can come up with a Christmas word for every letter of the alphabet? It’s a lot easier when you’re sitting on the couch than when the clock is ticking!
Have everyone sit in a circle. The first player has 10 seconds to name something Christmas-related beginning with A. The next player gets B, the next gets C, and play continues around the circle through the alphabet.
Angel... Bethlehem... Candy Cane... Decorations...
Can’t think of a word before your 10 seconds are up? You’re out!
If you make it all the way through Z with several players still standing, start over at A. Previously used answers can’t be repeated. For the letters Q, X or Z, you can allow words that simply contain those letters instead of actually beginning with them.
Keep going until only one player remains and is crowned the Christmas A–Z Champion.
Best for: Families & groups

Ages: 8–Adult

Time: 10–15 minutes
Prep: Just a timer
Why we love it: Everyone knows plenty of Christmas words — until it’s their turn. When the pressure is on, sometimes the brain goes blank.
9. Christmas Name That Town

Joy, Illinois or Jubilee, Georgia? One of those Christmas-sounding towns is real. The other one is completely made up. Can you tell which is which?
Christmas Name That Town presents players with 20 pairs of festive-sounding town names from across America. For each question, one town actually exists — and one is fake.
Simply choose A or B and see how good your Christmas geography really is.
It sounds easy...until both answers seem completely believable!
Play individually or divide the family into teams and see who can identify the most real towns.
Best for: Families

Ages: 8–Adult

Time: 10–15 minutes

Questions: 20

Prep: Print & Play
Why we love it: You don’t have to be a geography expert — or even know the answer — to play. Everyone has a 50/50 shot simply by choosing A or B, which makes this one especially good for families with a wide range of ages.

10. Who in the Family? — Christmas Edition
How well do you really know your family?
Gather everyone together and have one person read a Christmas-themed question. On the count of three, everyone points to the family member they think best fits the description.
There are no right or wrong answers — and that’s exactly what makes it fun. Just be prepared to defend yourself when the entire family points at you!
Try these 10 questions:
- Who is most likely to wait until Christmas Eve to finish their shopping?
- Who would make the best department-store Santa?
- Who is most likely to peek at a Christmas present before Christmas morning?
- Who is most likely to give someone a present they bought at the gas station on the way over?
- Who would last the longest living at the North Pole?
- Who is most likely to start listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving?
- Who is most likely to fall asleep during a Christmas movie?
- Who would be most likely to accidentally give away what someone’s Christmas present is?
- Who is most likely to wake up first on Christmas morning?
- Who is most likely to dress up like Santa?
Best for: Families
Ages: 8–Adult

Time: 10–15 minutes

Prep: None
Why we love it: Nobody needs Christmas trivia knowledge or special skills. It’s simply about how well you know each other — and finding out whether the rest of the family sees you the same way you see yourself!
